Watch Wimbledon in Style

If you haven’t got tickets to centre court this year, don’t despair. You can put away that picnic hamper, don your tennis whites and get your racquets ready in order to host a Wimbledon viewing party like no other, all from the comfort of your own home.

Whether you invite your nearest and dearest or just your keenest court partners, the two-week competition in SW19 provides ample opportunities to congregate in your garden to support this beloved British institute, a fabulous sporting extravaganza and a little bit of socialising all at once!

First of all, you’ll need to erect a big screen under a gazebo on the lawn – if you’ve got an exposed expanse of wall this could make the perfect projection screen, but if not, you simply need a large sheet stretched between two poles for a makeshift screen. The gazebo is a vital part of your viewing area as not only will it protect you from the possibility of harsh sunrays, but it will simultaneously act as a refuge from the inevitable Great British rain.

As you no longer have to worry about lugging your lunch around, we wholeheartedly endorse setting up an exquisite table draped in crisp white linen, beautifully laid with finest china and crystal glasses. Fill large glass vases with miniature tennis balls as decorative centrepieces and keep the florals simple, fresh and seasonal.

When it comes to sustaining your guests, ensure that you have plenty of fresh fruit on hand to make the most of delicious summer produce. Asparagus is in season, so why not have some delectable asparagus tarts alongside large bowls full to the brim with various salads? Strawberries and cream served in a large crystal bowl are a no-brainer, along with homemade jam tarts and a Victoria sponge covered in summer berries.

Having helped themselves to the buffet of British summer fare, your guests can relax in vintage style deckchairs whilst sipping Earl grey cocktails, ginger and lemongrass cordial or, of course, the quintessential taste of summer: Pimm’s. Make sure you fill pitchers with plenty of fresh fruit and don’t be scared to throw in a bit of cucumber, mint and celery to the mix.

Of course, if you’re lucky enough to have your own tennis court, do make sure there’s time for a few games between matches, or after a long day of spectating when your competitive spirit will surely have been piqued!
