Heavenly Honeymoons – Royal Duvai

Whilst the sun made an appearance over the Olympic period, British summertime seems to have consisted this year of having to always carry an umbrella and wear an appropriate pair of shoes at all times in case of a downpour. If, like us, you’re longing to escape to sunnier shores without the threat of autumn creeping in to your day, you might just be in luck, as we have been doing some honeymoon research.

On a recent jaunt around the wonder that is Pinterest, we stumbled upon the most delectable looking island retreat, quite literally in the middle of nowhere. Courtesy of the ever-resourceful Honeymoon Project, we fell in love with Royal Davui Island Resort in Fiji.

For many people, there is no greater way to kick-start married life than surrounded by dazzling ocean and sand beaches. Represented by Mr & Mrs Smith in their boutique hotel collection, Royal Davui is a private resort boasting 15 suites and the kind of tropical relaxation that is the perfect balm to post-wedding blues.

Upon receiving a freshly baked loaf of banana bread on arrival, you will be escorted to your modern, chic room with an emphasis on the outdoors. With Jacuzzi spa baths, glass doors opening out onto sun decks and plunge pools, your home for your honeymoon will be nothing short of exquisite.

Needless to say, the opportunity to indulge in diving and snorkeling activities is a huge draw to this tropical paradise. In addition to a variety of corals and fish, Royal Davui capitalises on the prevalence of sharks in the area for those brave enough to take the dive!

If eating fish is more preferable than swimming with them, you can eat your catch after a day of fishing, which will be particularly exciting for big-game fishers. If you prefer to chill out, then book yourself a treatment at the Pure Fiji spa or just hang out around the outdoor pool with your own sun lounger cocktail service.

Room rates at Royal Davui also include sunset canapés, entertainment each evening, a weekly beach barbecue and non-motorised water sports. If you don’t want to just spend your time reading, relaxing and soaking up the sun, you will find plenty to do with a host of activities and excursions also available.

We love the fact that Royal Davui strives for ‘responsible luxury’, whether this is serving regional produce in the Banyan Restaurant and bar to support the local community or the fact that the resort was built out of sustainable materials. This means you can relax in newlywed bliss with an easy conscience that this paradise has been made as eco-friendly as possible.

Double rooms from £551 excluding 20% tax.
