December 5: The Rainbow Trust Carol Concert, at St Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge.

Arrive at 6pm for mince pies and mulled wine. With music by the Cheam School Choir, and readings by actress Doon Mackichan, actors Danny Huston and Nicholas Farrell, illustrator Jan Pieńkowski and politician and author Stanley Johns. The Rainbow Trust offers support for children with a terminal or life threatening illness and their families. Tickets: £40. December 5: The Macmillan Guards Chapel Christmas Concert, at The Guards Chapel, Westminster.

Starts at 7pm. This is the 26th year of the Guards Chapel Christmas Concert, and it has become one of the must-attend events in the Christmas calendar. Macmillan supports familes dealing with cancer.

Occasional Advent Calendar

December 11: Operation Smile’s Carols by Candlelight, at Grosvenor Chapel, Mayfair.

The evening starts at 6:30pm with warming drinks, followed by musical performances from vocal harmony group The Overtones and the Gospel Choir IDMC, and readings from celebrity readers Duncan Bannatyne & Barbara Windsor. This affair has become so popular that they are now holding two events: this one in Mayfair and another in the City on the 17th December. Operation smile helps treat facial deformities such as cleft lips & cleft palates. December 12th: Draycott Nursing’s Carol Concert at St Luke’s Church in Chelsea.

Arrive 6.45pm for 7pm start. With celebrity readings by ‘Outnumbered’ Actress Claire Skinner, TV Vet Zara Boland, LBC Presenter Lisa Aziz, Made in Chelsea’s Fran Newman-Young, and musical performances by singer Emma Munro-Wilson and St Luke’s Choir. And the best bit? The wonderful dogs from Canine Partners will be there with their partners. The ticket price includes drinks and canapés after the service. Canine Partners assists disabled people to enjoy greater independence and a better quality of life through the help of specially trained dogs. Tickets: £25, £15 (Gallery) and £10 for children.
