Wedding Trends for 2014
Every year recently engaged couples look at how to make their wedding unique and on trend, so we have pulled together the hottest wedding trends for 2014.
Colour
As you may have seen from our post at the beginning of the year, Pantone have declared Radiant Orchid to be the colour of choice for 2014. We’re expecting to see a whole kaleidoscope of purples, from lavender undertones to fuchsia accents as a result. Not sure Radiant Orchid will look good on you? Luxury bridal retailer Miss Bush Bridal created a shoot last year showing exactly how to style orchid tones into your bridal style and across your bridesmaids.
Speaking of bridesmaids, twobirds bridesmaids have launched a new selection of shades to indulge the popularity of pastels. The new duck egg, peach, mint and heather shades are all lovely soft, feminine hues for your ‘maids to sport.
Pastels are beginning to be combined with brighter, more vibrant colours as well, though. Freesia, orange and dazzling blue are creating splashes of colour and we’re seeing aqua become very popular, with lots of peacock feathers being used to add vibrancy.
Pink is back. There’s no two ways about it: soft nudes and blush pink are in the ascendancy once more. It definitely seems to be the softer, salmon side of rose rather than hot pink – though that’s a fabulous colour to combine with turquoise if you have confidence! Similarly, we’re seeing rose gold being very popular so this might be a subtle way to incorporate your pink tones.
Theme
Weddings are of course a celebration of love, so we’re delighted to see a return of romance when it comes to the aesthetic for weddings in 2014. We’re thinking white-gloved butlers and waiters, crystal champagne glasses, tables overflowing with long tapering candlesticks…simply romantic throughout. How often do you get to make a public declaration of love? Now’s the time to go the whole nine yards.
Elsewhere, the influence of Downtown Abbey, The Great Gatsby and the spectacle of the roaring 20’s will continue to play a prominent part in wedding design this year. Whether you opt for art deco wedding stationery or insist on a black tie banquet at supper, a nod to the jazz age adds uninhibited glamour to a wedding theme. Some couples are sticking to traditions and even going back to the true meaning of a wedding breakfast!
Lighting
Let there be light! Often overlooked despite being the precursor to creating atmosphere and adding breathtaking production values, lighting your wedding venue continues to be an important factor. From elegant crystal chandeliers and beautifully lit candelabras to exciting and elaborate lighting designs using gobos, this is your chance to set the scene.
Projected monograms have perhaps now seen their day and we’re planning a lot of exciting contemporary lighting schemes for our clients in 2014.
Details
Each year we say this and see it become more prevalent, but 2014 is going to prove that it’s even more important for guests to recognise the couple throughout their special day. Originality is key. Everything from small touches like beautifully handwritten notes to sentimental decisions to hold a wedding reception at the family home is becoming an opportunity for couples to assert their personality on their wedding.
We’re also seeing more beautiful illustrations take centre stage in 2014. Hand-drawn illustrations will be in far more wedding stationery collections this year, from save the dates and information maps to menus and thank you cards. Depictions of wedding venues or bespoke commissions of the newlyweds can be married up with finishing flourishes and patterns to ensure everything down to the last pen stroke is personal to you.
With all of that to think about, it’s certainly going to be a bright and brilliant year to get married in.
