Wedding Umbrellas and Parasol Styling

You know, umbrellas don’t just have to be bland little handbag sized affairs that you only think about when the heavens open. Umbrellas and parasols can make fabulous decorative items for a party or wedding and can be especially fun when incorporated into a photo shoot.

Today we’re going to think about how you can ensure your guests have the practicality of protection from the inevitable Great British weather but how decoratively they can be styled into your celebration.

You may not have thought of it before, but umbrellas and parasols can make fantastically quirky table centrepieces. We love the idea of designing your own unique monograph or pretty patterns that can be traced on to light colored umbrellas; you can then hang them up as part of the wedding decorations for a romantic, rustic feel.

If you’re holding your wedding reception in a relatively bare space, such as a barn or industrial loft, then a canopy of parasols suspended from the ceiling will immediately inject personality and atmosphere into the venue. They make a quirky alternative to draping and can look really dramatic beneath well thought-out lighting.

For outdoor weddings, brollies are practically a necessity. Feel free to demarcate the pathways towards your ceremony area with close umbrellas planted tip down into the lawn, or even to line the aisle. This looks even more fun if you choose multi-coloured, oversized gold umbrellas.

They also work wonderfully as wedding favours either in the blistering heat to offer some shade, or in the rain, where you will have some extremely grateful guests! Have your initials and wedding date inscribed into the wooden handle of each shade to make them into really memorable gifts.

As with all elements of event design, the only limitation is really your imagination. A little attention to detail can go a long way to making something fairly rudimentary into a fun, pretty part of your wedding styling.
