Children’s Parties: Alice in Wonderland Theme
One of our favorite children’s party themes is the Alice in Wonderland / Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme. There are so many fabulous things you can do, for children of all ages as well as a sophisticated tea party which the grown-ups would enjoy too. There are two colour palettes which work really well:
The bright and colourful:
Pretty vintage styled look:
You can really go to town so pick a few themes from the book and incorporate these in the decoration. Playing cards, top hats, red roses, mushrooms, mirrors, clocks, teapots, flamingos, and croquet. These can be hung, strung, and placed anywhere to really bring the theme to life. Just remember to incorporate the theme throughout, starting with the invitations. Here are a few suggestions:
Invitations:
Use well known and recognisable quotes from the book: Tell your guests not to be late for a very important date, like the White Rabbit and ask them to meet you in Wonderland. Shape your invitations like a playing card, teapot or tea cup. You could even make a top hat, and replace the 10/6 card with a card detailing the party address and time.
Table decorations:
There are so many options to choose from and for this party theme, it’s absolutely fine to go slightly ‘mad’. Set up a long table, covered with mismatched teacups and saucers, chandeliers and different teapots. Scatter Alice in Wonderland related items across the table, like playing cards, clocks, little golden keys and keyholes. Fill vases with white and red roses. To finish off have the guests sitting on various sized chairs, so they are all at different heights.
Signage:
Hang up signs with ‘this way’, ‘that way’, ‘up’, ‘down’.
Food & Drinks:
It wouldn’t be an Alice in Wonderland party without the themed food and drink labels instructing guests to ‘drink me’ and ‘eat me’.
You can also go to town with a fabulous tier themed cake!
Entertainment & Games:
Play croquet using lawn plush flamingoes, play pin the grin on the Cheshire cat, have a photobooth with lots of fabulous hats for guests to try on. Have a ‘I’m late’ potato sack race and to top it all off, invite Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter along to entertain guests.
